AFC Region I Director Erin Roush addresses conference attendees at the Your Move: Leadership in Action AFC Region I Conference held May 1 at Pensacola State College.
The Pensacola State College Association of Florida Colleges Chapter hosted the AFC Region I Conference on Friday, May 1, at the Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts on the Pensacola campus. In attendance were Region I members from Gulf Coast State College, Northwest Florida State College, Pensacola State College and Tallahassee College, and an AFC representative from St. Petersburg College.
“Regional AFC conferences give college employees the opportunity to invest in their professional growth without the time and cost of traveling far from home,” said PSC Workforce Program Support Coordinator Erin Roush, AFC Region I director. “We network with colleagues from our neighboring institutions, learning from each other and participating in professional development activities that support our work and individual careers.”
Roush and PSC President Ed Meadows, Ed.D., offered welcome remarks, and PSC Associate Vice President of Government and Community Relations Grover Robinson provided a legislative update before conference attendees participated in breakout training sessions on technology, workforce analytics and strategy, employee development, creative problem solving and more.
“For this year’s conference, we chose the colorful board-game theme Your Move: Leadership in Action, because both board games and leadership require strategy, problem solving, collaboration, communication and the ability to adapt when things don’t go as planned,” said Roush. “Sometimes we feel like winning, and sometimes we feel like we are behind, but the important thing is to keep moving!”
AFC membership is also about student support and community service, so conference attendees were asked to bring personal hygiene supplies for the Pirates CARE Student Resource Center.
“I’d like to thank the volunteers, who were amazing,” Roush added. “They gave advice, supported every crazy idea I had, and they were there for anything and everything on the day of the event.” Conference volunteers included PSC AFC Chapter members Jan Mayhew, Jamie Beck, Mel Miner, Jessie Delmore, John Woods, Patrick Williams, La’Krystal Neal-Williams, Bekki Toda and Kathleen Adkins.
AFC is the professional association of Florida’s 28 public member institutions of the Florida College System, their boards, employees, retirees, associates and the employees of the Division of Florida Colleges. Its mission is to promote, represent and support its members and member institutions, providing students and Florida citizens with a world-class college system.
